Williams was rewarded for her impressive season in collecting the top honour at United's presentation function at the Dickson Tradies on Sunday night.

Defenders dominated after a season in which United conceded just eight goals in its 12 games in the regular season.

American defensive midfielder Kendall Fletcher was named the players' player, right-back Sally Rojahn took out the rising star award while centre-back Ellie Brush picked up the supporter's player of the year.

Williams showed why she is Australia's first-choice goalkeeper with a string of outstanding performances to help United claim the premiership, before it lost 2-1 to Brisbane Roar in last weekend's semi-final.

The 25-year-old's six clean sheets from 11 appearances in the regular season was a club record and took her overall mark in the W-League to 21 from 54 games.

She missed last season recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her knee and played in Sweden in the off-season.

United and Matildas teammate Michelle Heyman lauded Williams' performance and said she was a worthy winner of the award.

''That girl is just amazing,'' Heyman said.

''She's one of the best goalkeepers in the world and to be part of Canberra United and the Matildas is great.

''She was always the second goalkeeper until two years ago and now she's claimed her spot and bouncing back from her knee she's picked up even more.

''She would be a big name overseas in the US league, I think any team would sign her.''

Williams is unlikely to play in the US so she can concentrate on her commitments with the Matildas for the Asian Cup in Vietnam in May.

Fletcher was one of three American recruits along with midfielder Lori Lindsey and striker Stephanie Ochs, who were all valuable additions to the team.

United coach Elisabeth Migchelsen is keen to have the trio back next season.

After featuring mainly on the bench in the past two seasons, Rojahn took her chance to establish herself in the starting side with both hands.

The Young Matildas representative played with poise and composure and showed herself to be a star for years to come. Brush was rewarded for another solid season.

The foundation player handed the captaincy to Nicole Sykes after five years at the helm, but provided great leadership as her deputy.
