Foster hugged his "nervous" daughter during the national anthem, leading to a series of repugnant jokes and nasty comments on both Twitter and Facebook during and after the match, which Liverpool won 4-0 in front of just over 40,000 people.

The 46-year-old retired from football in 2003, after a long career featuring spells in both England and Australia, as well as 29 caps for Australia and nine goals.
