Frank Farina sacked as Sydney FC coach

After months of speculation about his position, Sydney FC have announced they have sacked coach Frank Farina, effectively immediately.

Farina originally joined the Sky Blues in late 2012 on an interim basis - which was later made permanent - but was unable to lift the club into contention for the title in either of his two seasons in charge.

Hard road ahead for Mariners

Central Coast Mariners will play for a spot in the A-League grand final 36 hours after arriving back in Australia. Is this fair?

A massive fan protest was staged earlier this year calling for the end of Farina's tenure, only for a series of sporadic results to save the ex-Socceroos coach from a premature exit.

However, with Sydney bowing out of the finals following a 2-1 loss to Melbourne Victory last Friday, the board exercised a clause in Farina's contract that allowed them to terminate his deal immediately. .

"Frank joined us as coach in a difficult period last season and has always given his absolute dedication and commitment to the club," Sydney FC chairman Scott Barlow said. "Frank has shown great integrity and resolve in what has been often challenging circumstances this year. I would like to pay tribute to Frank for his professionalism and wish him well for the future."
