The position was advertised after Sermanni accepted a role leading the US women's national team last month, the biggest job in women's football.
Klimkova, who holds a UEFA pro-license, the top coaching qualification in Europe, is the reigning W-League coach of the year, and a popular favourite to take control of the national team following Sermanni's exit.
The Czech had not lost a W-League match until United's 3-0 loss to Melbourne, coincidentally the day before the November 18 application deadline.
Klimkova submitted her CV, which also includes international playing experience and time coaching the Czech under-17 and under-19 national sides, just before the cut-off.
''They got it, they answered me [that] they appreciate the application and we'll see what happens,'' she said.
It's understood there was considerable interest in the job from within Australia and overseas.
