Rogic signs with Mariners

Tom Rogic's incredible rise has continued, with the Canberra teenager signing with ladder leaders Central Coast Mariners for the remainder of the A-League season.

The 19 year old, who last year was playing for Belconnen United in the Capital Football Premier League, signed with the Mariners today and will begin training tomorrow.

The attacking midfielder could make his top-level debut in Sunday's NSW derby with Sydney FC at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Rogic rose to prominence after winning a place in the elite Nike Academy in London, and was offered a contract with English Championship side Reading.

However, the deal didn't go through because of he couldn't gain a work permit, leading him to sign with the Mariners.

''Obviously I'm very excited and hopefully it's going to be a great opportunity,'' Rogic said.

"I feel pretty comfortable slotting in, I know most of the boys, 'Arnie' [coach Graham Arnold] and people at the club, so I'm just excited to get straight into it."

Rogic trained with the Mariners before leaving for England, doing enough to catch Arnold's eye.

"We actually offered him a contract before he went to the Nike Academy," Arnold said.

"We've been monitoring him since he went and he's another youngster we've got with a huge amount of potential."

"Tom is a creative player, you give him the key and tell him to go and unlock the door.

''He's naturally gifted, has a strong physique and can score goals as well.

''We have signed potentially and hopefully one of Australia's future brightest stars.''
