Sydney FC v Western Sydney Wanderers

s

What a derby. What drama. An absolute ball-tearer in front of 40,000 delirious fans. The first half was a bit how's yer father but the second stanza came alive like few sporting contests can. A great win for SFC, which puts them only three points adrift of the red and black. The Wanderers paid for a series of cataclysmic defensive errors - most notably from Beauchamp, Polenz and keeper Covic - and a missed penalty by Bridge. Santalab tried his heart out all night but SFC showed great composure to come back after going a goal down. Antonis and Abbas spilled blood for the Sky Blues and Ognenovski was a towering presence in defence. A fantastic win for Frank Farina's men on a great night for the A-League. Just coming through now... Ali Abbas is claiming he's been abused "culturally" on the pitch. No wonder he was so fired up. There will be fall-out from that.

89th min:

Penalty - handball by Polenz. That was very soft. Another Wanderers clanger. Abbas's left foot does the honours. That's the match-winner.

88th min:

Calver cops a yellow for a foul on Haliti, but the Wanderer complains too much and gets one himself. Comic stuff.

SFC 2 WSW 1

85th min:

Ali Abbas is losing it - completely mouthing off at the ref. He needs to calm down. Ognenovski is holding Abbas's head and urging him to chill. This is crazy. Gripping stuff.

82nd min:

The Wanderers are edging their way up the field on the back of freekicks. SFC are out on their feet.

 SFC 2 WSW 1

79th minute:

The Wanderers aren't lying down. Santalab puts Hersi away down the right wing and the flying Dutchman cracks a lightning cross that creates havoc in the SFC defence. There's a long way to go in this game, folks.

SFC 2 WSW 1

77th minute:

The pressure is getting to the Wanderers. Mooy has hacked down Garcia on the left flank and copped a yellow for his efforts. That was nasty.

SFC 2 WSW 1

74th min:

Goal. What a calamity! A terrible, terrible mistake from Michael Beauchamp. He got the ball from Covic, went to pass it back but mishit it and Garcia swooped to bang home through an empty goal. Tragic.

Crowd tonight: 40,285. A victory for the A-League over the NRL.

70th min:

Substitution: Poljak off, playmaker Mooy on for the Wanderers. This could be a game-changer.

SFC 1 WSW 1

66th min:

It's blowing up, folks. La Rocca has felled Gligor in back play and Jurman has just shoved Hersi in the back. But the ref lets it pass. Probably for the best.

SFC 1 WSW 1

63rd minute:

Superb stuff. Hersi curled a chip from 15m that had Janjetovic at full stretch. That would have been goal of the season.

61st min:

ADP off for excitement machine Gameiro. Yep, we told you ADP was not right.

SFC 1 WSW 1

54th min:

GOAL! An inswinging freekick is punched into Matt Jurman's shoulder and the rebound cannons into the back of the net. Poor goalkeeping from Covic. The atmosphere is electric now. This is sport at its best.

51st min:

Can SFC get a lift out of Bridge's penalty miss? If he'd scored it would have been game over for the Sky Blues. Back to Ono's goal, it was great lead-up work down the left side: a fine cross from Poljak.

SFC 0 WSW 1

49th minute:

Penalty! Seriously clumsy Richard Garcia has pulled down two Wanderers in the box. That should have been a double penalty! Bridge steps up to the spot. He smashes the ball to Janjetovic's right and the SFC keeper turns it around the corner. What a save. This game has come alive big time.

SFC 0 WSW 1

47th minute:

GOAL.

Santalab heads to Shinj Ono who snaps past Janjetovic from six yards. Great reflexes from the Japanese playmaker.

SFC 0 WSW 1

Sydney FC are attacking into The Cove this half, which should give them a boost when they're in the box.

"Rumored injury" update: ADP is OK. He's back on.
