Now it appears Carl Valeri is on the verge of breathing life into his World Cup ambitions with a mid-season transfer in search of more playing time.

The Socceroos midfielder, who like Rogic is from Canberra, has been linked with a move to Italian second division club Ternana, according to reports in Italian media.

The 29-year-old's dream was to play in Serie A, but he has been unable to force his way into the Sassuolo side after recovering from a serious ankle injury six weeks ago.

Rogic made a similar move earlier this week, securing a loan deal from Scottish giant Celtic to join A-League club Melbourne Victory in order to boost his World Cup prospects.

He is almost the forgotten man of the Socceroos, but former captain Paul Wade believes Valeri's change of clubs can open the door for him to grab the attention of new coach Ange Postecoglou.

''Carl could be one of those bolters where we go, 'Whoa, where did he come from?''' Wade said.

''I can't imagine he would be out of the picture.

''As long as he's playing well and he impresses, he could be going to the World Cup.''

Postecoglou, who is currently in Europe on a scouting mission, coached the Tuggeranong United junior in the Australian under 17s and under 20s teams.

Valeri wanted to stay at Sassuolo after helping take the club to the top flight after he toiled away for a decade in the lower divisions in Italy.

However, the 50-capped Socceroo needs to get on the park if he wants to be considered for a third straight World Cup.

Valeri hasn't played for the national team since tearing ligaments in his ankle in a friendly with South Korea in November 2012.

That was the same game where Rogic made his Socceroos debut.

The 21-year-old has since gone on to turn heads with several eye-catching cameos, but he has been unable to cement a regular place in the Celtic starting XI since making a $750,000 move to Glasgow in January last year.

If Rogic can recapture his dazzling form for the Central Coast Mariners before he left Australia, he has the potential to be one of the most important players for the Socceroos in a tough pool that features such powers as Spain, the Netherlands and Chile.

''Playing in the A-League is one thing, but this is playing against two of the best teams in the world in front of a billion people,'' Wade said.

''It's a lot of responsibility on young shoulders, but you'd say he will have a massive impact and be a key player in the midfield.

''He will thrive with the Victory and be a great addition to their squad.''
