Mile Jedinak's World Cup preparations have been hampered by a groin injury sustained while playing for Crystal Palace on the final day of the Premier League season.

The Socceroos skipper seems an unlikely starter for the May 26 friendly against South Africa after he was substituted out in the 59th minute of his side's 2-2 draw with Fulham. The injury thwarted Jedinak's attempt to play in every minute of all 38 Palace Premier League games for the season.

Jedinak will now have scans to assess the extent of the damage. It is an untimely setback for the captain, with just over a month remaining until Australia begins its World Cup campaign against Chile on June 14 in Cuiabá.

Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou will name a 30-man preliminary squad for the World Cup on Wednesday.
