United will find out at a Capital Football board meeting on February 18 whether it will be the ACT's representative in the elite 32-team nationwide competition.
The reigning Federation Cup holder was dismayed it wasn't automatically nominated for this year's FFA Cup despite having won Canberra's knockout tournament.
The original decision was to hold a pre-season tournament between the eight Canberra National Premier League clubs in March and April to determine who would qualify for the FFA Cup, with the Federation Cup to be used in subsequent years.
Tuggeranong United president Jon Thiele lodged a written appeal with Capital Football calling for common sense to prevail and has received support from most clubs.
''The implications are massive,'' Thiele said.
''Sponsorship wise it will be a significant shot in the arm for us and it could really put this club on the map.
''We'll be playing in the round-of-32, so the best 32 teams in Australian football and hopefully progressing to the next round and the round after where we can potentially play against an A-League club, which is incredible to think about.''
The FFA Cup is scheduled to kick off in July, with the Federation Cup tentatively pencilled in to finish in August or September.
