Playing on a pitch showing the effects of torrential rain over the previous 48 hours, neither side could find the back of the net in a scoreless draw at Magic Park on Saturday.

Canberra improves to sixth on the table to close within two points of fourth-placed Sydney FC for a spot in the top four, while the Jets split the pair in fifth.

It was the second of four straight away games for Canberra, who were eager to bounce back after last week's 4-2 loss to league leaders Melbourne City in Gosford.

While she would have preferred to have collected her team's second win of the campaign, Canberra coach Rae Dower knows every point will be valuable at the end of the season.

"We created a number of opportunities, but we probably weren't clinical enough to finish them today and certainly they defended in very big numbers," Dower said.

"Our second half was really good, a lot of ball movement, a lot of possession and some really good crosses and really good shots on goal.

"We were pretty close, just not quite there."

United's preparation was disrupted, with goalkeeper Lydia Williams, Michelle Heyman, Caitlin Munoz and Ellie Brush in camp with the Matildas this week. The Jets also had several players on national team duty.

"I don't think that was a problem, it was very wet so sometimes were weren't quite there," Dower said. "Those players were pretty fatigued, but they pushed on and played quite well and they all saw out the 90 minutes. It was just a matter of inches."

Even at this early stage of the season, United's chances of claiming the league championship appear slim.

City has opened up a dominant 11-point gap over United having gone a perfect five from five in their first season.

"I don't think you say it's ever out of reach until it becomes [mathematically] impossible," Dower said. "We'll go out to get maximum points in every single game we play.

"Our goal is we want to have an opportunity to defend our championship and to do that we obviously have to make the final four."
