Ryan is recovering from a knee injury while Leckie's arrival has been delayed after he was too ill to board his scheduled flight from Germany.

Leckie has not been ruled out for the match against Kyrgyzstan or Tuesday's game away to Bangladesh, but his disrupted preparation would leave him as an outside chance to play a major role in Canberra.

The Socceroos are expected to progress through the first stage of qualification despite having a shock 2-0 loss away to Jordan in October.

The Socceroos are second in their group on nine points - four points behind Jordan and one ahead of third-placed Kyrgyzstan.

Ryan has been sidelined since suffering a meniscus injury to his knee while playing for his Spanish club Valencia a few months ago.

"After the plane flight yesterday, I don't think I'm quite ready today, but I'll train today with the team and see how I pull up tomorrow," Ryan said on Tuesday.

"I had three full sessions in Valencia before I came here and I think I'm at the stage where I want to take each day as it comes.

"My assessment now, I need more strength and power and stability before I declare myself match ready."

The majority of the Socceroos squad completed a training session at Canberra Stadium on Tuesday as well as meeting the public and signing autographs.

Canberra product Tom Rogic was one of the last to arrive on Tuesday night after scoring a sensational goal for his Scottish club Celtic on the weekend.

Rogic will train with the Socceroos on Wednesday night.

Ryan said he wasn't surprised he was called into the Socceroos squad despite not having returned to full fitness.

"The squad was announced a few weeks ago and back then I was hopeful that I was ready to play before the international break coming up," Ryan said.

"I was excited to be back. I've spent long enough sitting on my backside and not being able to play, so when I got the call from the medical team for the possibility of coming, it gave me a boost and hopefully I can make a bit of progress.

"Maybe (I will be ready for) the second game (against Bangladesh), I'm not sure."

Ryan has enjoyed a rapid rise to the top since making his Socceroos debut in 2012.

He joined Belgian side Club Brugge in 2013, helping them win the league championship and being named the best goalkeeper in that league.

That led to a big-money move to Valencia during the off-season before the knee injury halted his progress.

"It's my first injury where I have had to miss football, so it's a new experience," Ryan said.

"Being fully fit was one thing I was taking for granted.

"It's made me hungrier again and it's a bit like life - you have good times and bad, but I'm positive and the light at the end of the tunnel is hopefully the next step."

The vast expanses of the 55,000 seat Mestalla Stadium is a far cry from the palm trees and giant inflatable sauce bottles from where Ryan started his career at Gosford.

"It's pretty breathtaking," Ryan said.

"Three or four sides of the stadium was pretty steep and high and it's pretty special.

"I'm in a city where there's no hustle and bustle and it's pretty relaxed, so I'm enjoying it."
