'Sportenary' reaches out to people
Canberra's centenary isn't just about elite sporting events in the nation's capital.
The ACT government has launched the ''Sportenary'', which features 100 community sporting events throughout the year.
Its aim is to encourage Canberrans to get involved with sport, as well as to engage with community and elite sporting clubs in the region.
Some initial activities include trying baseball with the Canberra Cavalry at Narrabundah Ballpark, as well as basketball with the Canberra Capitals at AIS Arena.
The government has also launched ''The Centenary Club of the Month''. This will run from February to November, with a local sporting team, club or organisation winning the monthly award.
Each monthly winner will receive $500 and will go into the draw to become Centenary Club of the Year.
