Australian swimming champion Leisel Jones has called a press conference for Friday morning where she is expected to announce her retirement.
At the London Olympics this year, Jones became the first Australian swimmer to compete at four Olympic Games. She won a silver medal in the women's 4x100m medley relay team, and finished fifth in the 100m breaststroke.
Jones was already considering retirement on the eve of the London Games. ''Retirement is always in the back of your mind but I haven't decided anything yet", she said at the time.
A nine-time Olympic medal winner, Jones ties with Ian Thorpe for the most Olympic medals won by an Australian.
Jones, now 27, swam for Australian in the Sydney 2000 Olympics at the age of 15, where she won silver in the 100m breaststroke.
Jones has reportedly not trained since returning from London.
