Canberra duo Alison Bai and Ashley Keir have crashed out of the ACT claycourt international but Bai will get a chance for redemption when she plays resurgent Australian Ashleigh Barty in the doubles on Wednesday.

Bai lost to top seed Miyu Kato of Japan in a tight three-set battle, eventually going down 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 at the Canberra Tennis Centre.
Keir fell to up-and-coming Australian Destanee Aiava in a big-hitting match with, Aiava taking a 3-0 lead to start the match and going on for a straight sets triumph 6-3, 6-3.
Bai and partner Ya Hsuan Lee will play against Barty and Arina Rodionova for a place in the doubles semi-finals.
Rodionova is still in contention for the singles title after coming from behind to beat Barbora Stefkova 6-7, 7-5, 6-1.
In other matches, Tammi Patterson (VIC) was dominant in her victory over fellow qualifier Sally Peers (VIC) dropping just 3 games. Wildcard Olivia Tjandramulia (QLD) upset fellow Australian Jessica Moore (WA) 7-6, 6-0. Qualifier Vivian Heisen(GER) upset eighth seed Varatchaya Wongteanchai (THA) in straight sets, while Pia Konig (AUT) beat Jaimee Fourlis (VIC).
The Canberra Tennis Centre will host two claycourt events during the next two weeks as the venue continues to grow its reputation on the national circuit.
Entry into the Canberra Tennis Centre is free, with singles play commencing at 10am, while doubles is scheduled not to start before 2pm.
