Back training in his hometown for the past two weeks, Kyrgios was greeted with plenty of smiles, autograph hunters and camera phones as the guest of honour at the Weston Creek Tennis Club's Tennis Carnivale on Saturday.

Every vantage point was taken as kids and their parents snapped as many photos as possible and watched the 20-year-old Canberra junior in action.

"It's a lot of fun," Kyrgios said.

"When I got told to come and join, I was going to make time for it.

"I just came straight from training. I always like doing this stuff, it's always a lot of fun and it's a good cause as well."

Kyrgios has copped plenty of criticism for his on-court behaviour and was left out of Australia's Davis Cup team to play Great Britain this weekend.

"When I drove in they were staring and smiling, that sort of makes me pretty happy," he said.

"It means I'm doing a good job and hopefully I can continue to having some good results and inspiring these kids to follow their dreams.

"Obviously it's tough not loving the sport completely, but when you do come out here and hit a couple balls and see what it can do for them, it means a lot.

"Hopefully they can play on the big stage at the Australian Open."

The World No. 42 will next compete at the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur starting September 26.

The Canberra School of Tennis raised more than $2000 for the Tristan Knowles cancer foundation through the 24-hour cardio tennis challenge.

Classes were held from 4pm on Friday through to 4pm on Saturday as part of the fundraising effort.
