The pair are among 13 Australians to take to the courts at Melbourne Park for the first day of the 2015 Australian Open.

Woodbridge, who won three Australian Opens as a doubles player, said Canberran Nick Kyrgios would demand plenty of attention from local fans when he fought Argentinian left-hander Federico Delbonis at the Margaret Court Arena.

But Kokkinakis could also emerge as a star and was ready to make a career-making leap forward, as Kyrgios did against Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon last year, Woodbridge said.

Widely considered the unluckiest of the Australians in the draw, Kokkinakis, ranked outside the world's top 100, will take on Latvian Ernests Gulbis, ranked 13, on show court three.

"[Kokkinakis has] had a great preparation for a young fellow," Woodbridge said.

"Gulbis is a star player who has some big wins, but he's an up-and-down player."

"Every young player has a moment when he stands up, and this could be [Kokkinakis'] chance to say 'here I am'."

Australia's best women's player Samantha Stosur will not appear at Melbourne Park until Tuesday, but Woodbridge tipped Gajdosova, ranked 62, to get well into the tournament.

The 27-year-old made it to the fourth round of the French Open and Wimbledon in 2010, and the third round of the US Open in 2006, but has never made it past the first at the Australian Open.

Woodbridge said Gajdosova, who played under the name Jarmila Groth between 2009 and 2011, when she was married to Australian player Sam Groth, was in great form and could this year break her "voodoo" of first-round exits from the Australian Open.

She will play right-handed Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru at Margaret Court Arena, the first match of the tournament on that court.

Dulgheru is ranked 87 and has also never made it past round one at the Australian Open.

Bernard Tomic is another Australian who will be hoping to get 2015 off to a good start when he battles Germany's Tobias Kamke at Hisense Arena on Monday.

Tomic had a career-best grand slam result when he reached the quarter finals of Wimbledon in 2011, but has struggled to make that kind of impact since and has been widely criticised for a perceived bad attitude and lack of work ethic.

Last year he got through to the second round of Wimbledon and the US Open, but crashed out in the first at the Australian and French – the former due to injury.

He recently described himself as a more mature player and person than the youngster who made a splash on the Australian tennis scene four years ago, and he will have a chance to prove his form against Kamke in front of a home crowd.

The 28-year-old German is number 95 in the world, after reaching a career-best ranking of 64 in 2011.
