From a tennis point of view, Nick just had too many weapons. He overpowered Rafa to the point the Spaniard was left battered on the ropes. But he also showed he has a subtlety to his game. There's also a cheekiness to Nick that is going to rub some people the wrong way, in the same way Lleyton Hewitt does. But personally, bring it on, professional tennis needs characters. That between the legs, off forehand winner was just insane and Nick's reaction was something special. Anyways, I'd better write a story so I can go to bed. Coke is a nutritious breakfast right...

That was one of the most amazing nights I've ever experienced. For Nill Kyrgios to allow me into her home on the night her son Nick beat the world No.1 was an absolute honour. I'm glad I'm home and don't have to witness the media scrum that is about to descend on her...

Becker did it at 17, no reason why Nick can't do it at 19....

And he's done it! Nill screaming down the phone now! "I can't breathe!" she says...talk of a parade now as Nick goes thru to the quarter final...

ONe point away...

30-0. Overpowering Rafa completely now...

15-0...

The Kyrgios house holds their breath as Rafa holds his serve. Nick leads 5-3 and serving the match...

"Drop the hammer!" cries Nill. Nick responds to hold serve and he leads 5-2 in the fourth. Just one game away from beating the world No.1..."Do you understand the possibility?" says the uncle.

The break has stung Rafa into action, the champ knows it's now or never against the young Wild Thing...

That was freaky spin by Rafa there! Looked like @tuxy81 hook on the golf course...

Rafa looks like a fighter on the ropes at the moment. Kyrgios throwing all the punches, the world No.1 just trying to hang in there. Nick holds serve and he's up 4-1 in the fourth!

He brings up a break point with a powerful cross-court double hander...and he backs it up to break Rafa for the first time in the match! He's up 3-1 in the 4th! Talk about booking flights here now...

Nick has a wonderful combination of touch and power. Produces another blistering forehand down the line as the house erupts. Rafa produces some magic of his own with a big forehand in reply. If it isn't already, this is becoming a classic. Nick pushing for a break as he takes Rafa to deuce...

Great piece of umpiring there! Overruling to give Nick an ace, the first of three as he takes a 2-1 lead in the fourth set. Massive buzz in the Kyrgios house, everyone chatting - some in English some in Greek...

A pic of the scenes at Nick's house as he takes the third set...

Absolute pandamonium at the Kyrgios household! Led by Nick's mum Nill! The TV pictures should make interesting viewing!

Glorious rally by Kyrgios!

Discussion going on about the meaning of Kyrgios, most popular opinion appears to be gentleman. But then the discussion ends as Nick gets a mini break. But it's 3-all at the crossover...

The big cheer as Nick gets into a tiebreak has woken the Ch7 cameraman from his slumber on the couch...

Clutch! Massive first serve from Kyrgios to quash Rafa's set point. Then follows up with another big ace and forces Rafa into an error with a kicking second serve. We're going to a tiebreak in the third...

Meanwhile, Rafa holds serve and Nick now serving to stay alive in the third, trailing 6-5...

Where's Bob Hawke when you need him?

Hooray! They finally switched to the Aussie Hawkeye...he gets the call and wins the game to level it at 5-all. Now the fun begins...

Rafa replies by holding to love and it's 5-4 to him in the third...

Nill not happy with Nick's casual drop shot that falls into the net, "You can't be casual with Rafa". She was much happier with the big powerful shot in the next point and him holding serve to make it 4-all...

"About time" says Ross Triffit as Rafa gets a time violation. The world No.1 holds serve to lead 4-3 in the third. Sorry for the delay, just had to get some sugar...

Nadal goes 3-2 up. Nill's loving Nick's between the legs shot going viral on Twitter...

But Kyrgios holds his serve and it's 2-all in the third set...

How well is Rafa hitting it now! Kyrgios doing well to hang in there now...

Rafa holds serve to open the third set. Nill telling a family member to return to the seat he was sitting in during the first set. Gotta love superstitions in sport. It works, with another Kyrgios service game to love levelling it at 1-all...

And Rafa breaks, the first of the game, it's all square on centre court. Kyrgios won the first set 7-6, then Rafa the second 7-5...

HEAT! Earns some applause  and the "Let's go Nicky, let's go" chants begin on the couch again...

Big test here for Nick 5-6 0-30 down in the second...and he produces two big points to get back on track...but then Rafa earns himself a set point...

I saw a Spanish tweet earlier comparing Kyrgios to Safin (my Spanish isn't good enough to have the confidence to publish it in case there's some profanities in it) and that hop into the double handed backhand had Safin written all over it. I wonder how many super models are in the crowd?

The strawberries and cream getting passed around the Kyrgios house now... #dontmindifido

"I told you I feel a sensation, why don't you listen to me?" As Kyrgios casually whips another forehand winner. The casual nature of Nick's shot making is just brilliant...

"Did you see that?" Kyrgios casually flicks a winner from between his legs and then embraces the crowd. Rafa not overly happy with the showman in Nick at the moment...Rafa leads 4-3 in the second...

The cannon fires and it's 3-all in the second! Nick's mum Nill has convinced Tennis ACT boss Ross Triffit to get a Kyrgios haircut if Nick wins...

I think this Hawkeye system is Spanish, nothing going Nick's way, that one only missed by a nanometre...

Not to be outdone, the Kyrgios backhand gets in on the act and smashes it back across Rafa as he comes to the net. Celebrates by flapping his wings like a seagull!

Not happy with the challenge going against him, Nick unleashes the hammer! The crowd on the couch erupts...but Rafa holds on to keep it on serve 3-2 up in the second set...

"Come on!" screams Kyrgios. "There's the war cry" comes the comment from the couch. Kyrgios gets out of the first ounce of trouble he's encountered so far, winning the game with three big serves from 15-30 down. 2-all in the second...

Nadal cranking it up a notch at the start of the second set. FYI, Kyrgios has won 7 of 11 tiebreaks in his senior career (that might be 8 of 12 now)...Nadal leading 2-1 in the second set...

His serve has started the second set the way it finished off in the first...Newc feeling the power Nick is generating is catching Rafa out...

So Kyrgios wins the first set 7-6! His mum Nill just calming down enough to do a TV interview, she's having a good laugh at her reaction to the first set which is up on the big screen... #priceless

Boom boom! And Nick Kyrgios becomes the second Canberran to take a set off Rafa! Alun Jones of course is the other...

Big test here for Nick! Serving for the first set...6-5 in the tie-break...

Massive serve by The Wild Thing! brings up three set points. "Let's go Nicky, let's go," goes the chant in the Kyrgios house...

If there are any tennis stat nerds out there with the exact figures, let me know, but Nick has an amazing record in tiebreaks. He leads 4-2 at the change of ends...

Mini break for Kyrgios at the start of the tiebreak up 2-0, Rafa serving...make that 3-0!!! Can Nick be the next Alun Jones? "Bring the hammer," says the uncle. And it's 4-0...

Oh dear, Ch7 just show some footage of us, luckily i wasn't doing anything inappropriate. Amazing how quickly you forget there's a camera on you...

"In, In, In, In, In, In" is the chant in the Kyrgios house as Nick challenges the call. A scream of yes, but it was out by the smallest of margins...

Another sniff here for Kyrgios ... but two good serves by Nadal at 0-30 down brings it back square. Absolute silence between points here at the Kyrgios house, it's as if we're there at SW19. Luckily we didn't have to line-up for the whole day to get in. Now it's deuce and Nick asks the crowd to get into it...and he smokes a backhand down the line! Another break point...this time for the set...

Rafa all at sea against the Kyrgios serve, guessing (wrongly) which way he's going. The family happy with the good start, obviously preferring it to Nick coming from behind like he did in the last two matches. He leads 6-5 in the first set. Break or tiebreak? That is the question...

Clutch serving from Nadal as he levels it at 5-all with an ace! Woody asking "how long can Nick sustain the level?"

Very aggressive from Kyrgios, not afraid to come in on the Rafa serve. Now he's starting to win some rallies against the world No.1 at the business end of the first set...

Boo Ch7 for cutting to watch Raonic play Nishikori!

"You're very cheeky," says an uncle after Nick pushes it into the open court with Rafa stranded at the net...

A few concerns about whether the Channel 7 cameraman has a headache or not, but it turns out he was just checking his sound. Very caring family the Kyrgioses. Nadal holds on and it's 4-all. Promising signs for Kyrgios, with the only two break points of the game so far...

Bang! The off forehand and Nick has another break point, putting Rafa under all sorts of pressure. He just stood and delivered there like Adam and the Ants. But couldn't take advantage of the second serve...

Gee he looks cool, calm and collected...leading 4-3 in the first...

Great point by Nick, gets Nadal wide and pings it down the line, hands go up in the Kyrgios house but it's just wide...but there's hope...despite Nadal levelling it at 3-all.

And here's a sniff for Nick, Nadal down 0-30....but that's the class of Nadal, a few swishes of his racquet and it's back to 30-all! But now Nick has a second serve...and the Canberra kid gets the first break point!

Back-to-back aces as he heads to a 3-2 lead...

"He's just so good," Nick's mum Nill says as Nadal makes it 2-all...

Good signs early for Kyrgios, his serve is firing and his ground strokes don't look far off starting to hit the mark. He leads 2-1 in the first...

As a romantic, I can't help thinking about Boris Becker. The German burst onto the scene with his win at Wimbledon as a 17-year-old. Big serve, big game, full of confidence, much the same as Nick, although a little more serve volley. That's probably why I've been sent here tonight, as the only member of the sports team who was born when Becker won in 1985. And the sounds of Nick's aces smashing into the backstop are making a distinctive "boom" sound...

And he's off to the perfect start! Wins his serve to love and Rafa hasn't had a sniff yet...

Big scream as Nick wins the first point! "Welcome to the big show" is the cry...

Sitting next to Tennis ACT boss Ross Triffitt, who is doubling as security tonight ensuring no riff raff gets in. Somehow I've sneaked through...

Hooray! Newc thinks Nick "has the temperament" for this clash, plenty of agreement from the Kyrgios house...

The house has "Go Nick" signs and T-shirts everywhere. Big cheer as Nick walks out onto the court, not just any court, but centre court AT Wimbledon! Here he is, the former Daramalan student, playing in the fourth round on the biggest stage in the world, against the best player in the world.

Hello from the home of Nick Kyrgios, where I'm delighted to be the guest of Nick's mum Nill! The family and friends are gathered round the TV, there's film crews here and the excitement is building. The question on everyone's lips is whether Nill will watch...
