Three out of three not bad for series leaders

Tim Brosnan and Tracey Hannah continued their clean sweeps of the national Gravity Cup downhill series at Stromlo Forest Park yesterday, claiming round-three honours to take unassailable leads into next month's final round in Newcastle.

After recording the quickest time down Mt Stromlo yesterday, two-time reigning world junior champion Brosnan, of South Australia, was thrilled at his dominance in his first season in the elite men's competition.

''It is a little bit [of a surprise] but I knew I could be up there, going for the win,'' Brosnan said.

''I came in just having fun and I've been getting good results. I was feeling pretty good coming in [to the opening round at Thredbo] and to get these three wins has been a big confidence booster and hopefully I just keep that roll going.''

West Australian Sam Hill, who is a three-time elite men's world champion, was second fastest 2.45seconds behind Brosnan, with Todd Madsen in third place.

Canberra's Tim Eaton finished in fifth place with Ben Cory, who qualified for the final in second place, unable to find his Saturday form to finish well back in the field.

Queensland's Hannah easily accounted for the women's field, beating her nearest rival, fellow Sunshine State rider Lisa Mathison, by nearly 15 seconds with Victoria's Madeline Taylor claiming third place.

Hannah was thrilled with her early season form and hoped it boded well for the upcoming international season.

''I couldn't be happier with my form, especially at the start of the season, and then to win them all [three races], I'm just stoked,'' she said.

Both athletes are hoping that their Australian form will continue when the World Cup series gets underway at Pietermaritzburg, in South Africa in March.
