Air Marshal Evans died on September 2, aged 95, he had a 42-year career in the Royal Australian Air Force where he became Chief of the Air Staff in 1982.
There will be a flypast of two F-35A Lightnings and two F/A-18A/B Hornets in low-level "missing man" formation no lower than 150 metres (500 feet) between 2.40pm and 3pm. The planes will approach from the southwest, pass over the Russell Offices and the Duntroon campus, and depart to the northwest
Throughout his career Air Marshal Evans worked in operational service during the Berlin Airlift and as Commanding Officer No. 2 Squadron during the Vietnam War.
The funeral, at 1.30pm Tuesday, will be attended by family, close friends and invited guests only due to coronavirus restrictions limiting group gatherings.
Since his retirement as Chief of Air Staff in 1985, Air Marshal Evans contested the seat of Eden-Monaro in 1987, sat as chairman of the National Capital Authority from 1999 to 2003 and was on the board of British Aerospace Australia for 20 years. He was also the president of the Royal United Services Institute from 1999 to 2003.
