Twitter users victim of 'sophisticated' hacking

Date

TWITTER has been subjected to hacking and the attackers may have accessed information from about 250,000 users.

Twitter called the perpetrators ''extremely sophisticated'' and said it believed other companies had also been attacked.

Last week, the New York Times reported Chinese hackers had attacked its network. The Wall Street Journal detailed similar attacks on its systems, while Bloomberg LP, the parent of Bloomberg News, said there had been unsuccessful attempts to infiltrate its network.

''This week, we detected unusual access patterns that led to us identifying unauthorised access attempts to Twitter user data,'' Twitter said. It reset passwords for affected accounts, and was contacting those whose accounts were breached.
