Crowdfunding is the Caramello Koala box of the internet-age, proving how incredibly powerful an online community can be.

As a recent Community and Public Sector Union crowdfunding push proves, anyone anywhere can ask the general public to dip into their pockets to fund anything.

Some campaigns are highly successful with the outpouring of support they inspire, such as the GoFundMe helping to fund the rehabilitation of 14-year-old skydiver Elijah Arranz.

Others however really plumb the depths. Here are five of Canberra's least inspiring crowdfunders.

A Garran woman's bid to raise $110 to cover a parking fine she copped at Kingston attracted 158 shares but only $25. Her justification?

"I really don't want to pay $110. I parked for 20 minutes and then I got a $110 parking fine, ruined my day and I'd really appreciate small donations during the next 30 days," she writes.

"[It] means a lot to me because I've never had a fine and I'm kind of upset about it."

A Calwell gamer's poor run at Mario Smash Bros prompted him to attempt to crowdfund $360 for a Wii U of his own.

"I have had many, many good times playing smash bros with my friends on Wii U, however I don't have the money to purchase my own so my friends are always better than me because they can practice. This is why I am trying to get a Wii U for me and my little brother so [he] can practice with me," his impassioned plea reads.

His plight has thus far failed to draw a single dollar.

A budding musician from Chapman received a keyboard from his mum, a laptop from his sister and is now calling upon the rest of us to help him fund the software needed to create his dubstep mash-ups.

He's already using the pirated version but has had a crisis of conscience and wants to go straight – if not for the legitimacy then for the audio quality.

"My concern has been growing about getting in trouble for using illegally downloaded software. Music is my passion and I have been using outdated software for the last two years and do not currently have a job (although I am looking) and the software I need is pretty expensive so I was looking for some financial support from strangers," he writes.

Generous benefactors will receive free entry to any and all of his future shows, but only if his campaign hits its $1000 target.

"Come on lads get amongst it," he implores.

A Jerrabomberra man displayed rare insight by acknowledging that "funding a trip overseas on someone else's dime seems unreasonable and perhaps even selfish" while simultaneously attempting to crowdsource $1750 for spending money on his upcoming jaunt to New York with an old flame.

"The opportunity has presented itself for me to spend two weeks in New York over the Christmas/New Year period, with my flights and accommodation paid for – all I need to do is figure out spending money, travel insurance, and a small buffer for emergencies," he writes.

"He has been generous enough to contribute his home for me to stay with him, and his own hard-earned money to pay for my flights – but I want to give back. Not only do I want to have a financially stress-free trip, I want to shout him dinner, buy him flowers, or cover a cab every so often."

His plea for his first "New Year's Kiss" inspired the princely contribution of $5 before he took the campaign down.

A Dunlop woman seeking $15,000 for a breast enhancement with the most noble of intentions has not had much luck either.

"I have always been smalled [sic] framed but after having two kids and then going through a cancer battle which I won my body has gone south. I have worked hard to get everything back to where it was but there is nothing I can do about my boobs so I am looking at surgery," she wrote.
