The location With magnificent views over Port Phillip Bay and the vineyards and beaches of the Mornington Peninsula a short drive away, Arthur's Seat is a great spot for relaxing or exploring. Just 90 minutes' drive from Melbourne, the adjacent public gardens function as a beautiful reserve for kangaroos and native birdlife.

The Place George's B&B offers three glamorous upper-level suites, each with a balcony to enjoy the water view, with a fourth contemporary suite downstairs. A stylish downstairs cafe and communal area offers a cosy place to sit in front of the open fire in winter or relax on the deck in warmer weather (guests can also borrow a DVD or book). George's is also the venue for culinary retreats, with cooking lessons offered in an industrial kitchen.

The Experience It's hard to decide whether to sit on the balcony, put your feet up on the matching strawberry-coloured retro footstool, or simply collapse on the sofa. The room includes a luxurious bathroom and feels like an apartment, despite not having a kitchenette. Not that it needs one - with so many winery restaurants within easy reach there is little desire to be self-sufficient. Arthurs Hotel, with its dramatic view, is next door and ideal for a snack and a glass of wine or two.

Don't miss The breakfast, which is included in the tariff, is beautifully presented. The muesli includes elegant touches such as a side dish of seeds and sliced strawberries. The usual bacon and eggs combos are tackled with flair, and the coffee is excellent. An 11am checkout allows guests to enjoy the lovely setting, complete with cheeky kookaburras perched on balcony railings.
