Police are hunting two masked men armed with a knife and a meat cleaver who held up a Northcote Subway restaurant on Saturday night.
One of the men terrorised a customer with the meat cleaver while his accomplice demanded cash from staff.
The masked men entered the St Georges Road store just after 8pm.
One man approached a Thornbury customer, aged 42, who was eating at a table and forced him to the floor, before robbing him of his wallet and mobile phone.
His accomplice approached the staff and demanded cash at knifepoint.
The pair ran from the store and were last seen jumping over a side fence into a nearby laneway.
No one was injured.
Detectives from the Darebin Crime Investigation Unit have released CCTV footage of the robbery and are appealing for information.
Both bandits were about 177 centimetres tall. One was of muscular build with olive complexion. He was wearing a light-coloured long sleeved top and baseball cap, cargo pants and white runners. His face was covered with a black scarf.
The second man is of solid build with brown eyes and an olive complexion. He was wearing a red hoodie, light-grey tracksuit pants, white runners and a pale-coloured ski mask.
