A 30-year-old man has been charged with murder following the stabbing of a barman at a hotel in Carlton on Sunday night.
A 51-year-old Broadmeadows man was working at the University Hotel in Lygon Street when another man entered the venue just after 11pm.
The offender then allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times to the upper body.
The barman was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he later died.
A witness who works at a nearby 7-Eleven store toldradio station 3AW that police warned nearby shop keepers to close their doors.
‘‘I didn’t see [what was happening] for a long time,’’ he said.
‘‘I just saw the ambulance, I didn’t come outside, because the police told us to shut our doors.’’
The Templestowe man is expected to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday for a remand hearing.
