A Bendigo man was charged on Thursday with the death of an elderly man in a crash near Swan Hill in Victoria's north-west last year.

The 28-year-old from the Bendigo suburb of Kangaroo Flat was charged with dangerous driving causing death, drive in a manner dangerous and fail to give way by detectives from the major collision investigation unit.

He was bailed to appear before the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The charges relate to the death of an 84-year-old Swan Hill man in a crash at Kunat, about 30 kilometres south of Swan Hill, on July 31.

The Bendigo man, who was driving a Toyota Corolla, allegedly failed to give way at the intersections of Quambatook and Ultima-Lake Boga roads and crashed into the Mistubishi utility the elderly man was driving at 11.20am.
