Car crashes through front of Brighton bar

Drinkers enjoying a Sunday-night tipple had a rude awakening when a car crashed through the front of a Brighton bar.

The crash happened about 12.10am on Monday at Mother’s Milk, a bar on Bay Street near Asling Street.

The BMW failed to negotiate a roundabout, said a police spokeswoman, and crashed through the front of the bar. Around twelve patrons were in the bar at the time.

Part of the bar’s wall collapsed, said an Ambulance Victoria spokesman, causing minor head grazes and cuts to a 29-year-old woman. She was taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition. A 31-year-old man who was with her was not injured.

‘‘It was huge – it all happened so quickly,’’ the venue’s manager, Becky Beckett, told radio station 3AW.

‘‘It was a bit of a blow but I’m just really astounded that everyone’s OK. Seeing how far the (window) frame came into the building is pretty shocking so I’m just glad everyone’s all right.’’

The two people in the car were not injured.

Police are investigating the crash.
