A man will appear in court on Saturday morning charged with the rape of a teenage girl in Melbourne’s south-east last month.

Police allege the man attacked a 16-year-old girl in a car park at Caulfield Recreation Reserve in Dudley Street, East Caulfield, about 8am on July 24.

The girl was followed into the car park, grabbed from behind and assaulted, according to police.

A jogger who was running laps intervened and the girl’s alleged assailant ran away.

Sexual Crimes Squad detectives arrested a 20-year-old Carlton man Joel Russo in relation to rape on Friday.

He has been charged with rape, assault with intent to rape, threats to kill and other offences.

He was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday.
