Police attempts to shut down a disorderly house party in Melbourne’s south-east resulted in the out-of-control revellers taking to the streets and smashing multiple cars.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Kate Millar said officers were called to the house party on Immerset Drive in Chelsea Heights about 11pm on Wednesday night.
Police decided to shutdown the party following noise complaints from neighbours and told the revellers to leave.
Officers believe up to 80 youths were there.
But far from heading home, neighbour Annabell Reeve told 3AW that the party-goers took their rowdy behaviour into the surrounding streets.
“There were a lot of young guys running up and down the street, screaming, throwing beer bottles, shouting at police,” she said.
As the dust cleared on Thursday morning, Ms Millar said police had received four reports of property damage to cars in the surrounding streets.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
“Police will be patrolling the area throughout the morning to ascertain whether any further damage has been done,” Ms Millar said.
