Officers were hunting for a Daffodil Day thief who took off with the supermarket charity tin on Friday.

Investigators were told a man aged in his mid-20s went into the supermarket on the corner of O'Shea and Clyde streets in Berwick at 11.45am and walked up to the counter. He then told a staff member he had come to pay his wife's bill at the store.

While the attendant was looking for the paperwork, the man slipped his jacket over the Daffodil Day tin and left the store with it.

Police were asking to speak to a man described as Caucasian with a slim to medium build and short dark hair. He was wearing a blue T-shirt with a white print on it.

Friday's Daffodil Day raised money for cancer research and support services.
