Day-long dispute led to St Albans shooting: police

A man in his 50s has been shot in the leg during an argument in Melbourne's west.

Police believe two men, who are known to each other, were involved in an ongoing dispute throughout the day before one shot the other with a handgun just before 6pm on Main Road East in St Albans.

Police arrested a 60-year-old man from St Albans at the scene.

A Deer Park man, believed to be in his 50s, was taken to hospital for treatment.

The Armed Crime Taskforce is investigating and any witnesses are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
