Docklands death: man charged after road crash

A man has been charged following a fatal two-vehicle crash in Docklands.

Police believe a white utility was travelling north on Footscray Road when it collided with a black hatchback turning into Waterfront Way at about 10am on Saturday.

A 34-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the hatchback, died at the scene. The car’s 36-year-old male driver was also injured.

Police have charged a 29-year-old Hillside man with culpable driving, dangerous driving causing serious injury, negligent driving causing serious injury and possessing a drug of dependence.

The Hillside man was bailed to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on February 5.

The woman’s death brings Victoria’s road toll to 26, 11 more than the same time in 2013.
