A man has been caught drink driving at more than four times the legal limit with three young children in his car.
Members of the public called police to report a man sleeping behind the wheel of a car in Richmond just before 5.30pm on Saturday.
Passersby woke the man, who was asleep in traffic in Howard Street.
The man pulled his car over to the side of the road.
When police arrived, the man was out of the car and staggering along the street while holding one child.
The three children, aged one, two and five, were taken into police care.
The man, 42, of Coburg, was taken to Richmond police station for a breath test.
He returned a blood alcohol reading of .223.
His licence was suspended for 12 months and he is due to face court on drink driving charges.
