A young child's legs have been badly burned in an incident in a car on the Burwood Highway in Melbourne's east.
Paramedics raced the primary school-aged child to the Angliss hospital, where she is being treated for lower-body burns.
Emergency services had received reports that the car was on fire on the highway in Ferntree Gully.
But an ambulance spokesman said it was not yet known what had caused the injuries.
The fire brigade was called to the car about 6.20pm.
The child is in a stable condition.
