Hoon flees on foot after high-speed car chase
Police have begun an air and land search for a man who led then on a car chase with speeds reaching 150km/h through Melbourne's northern suburbs.
The pursuit began after officers pulled over the man during a random intercept at the intersection of Puckle Street and Mount Alexander Road in Moonee Ponds about 3am on Wednesday.
As police left their car to speak to the man he sped off. The car chase was ended soon after after speeds reached 150km/h.
Police found the car, abandoned and seriously damaged, near the DFO car park at Essendon Fields about 3.30am.
A police spokeswoman said the car had been driven through a fence, down an embankment and hit a tree, where it became wedged.
The police dog squad and air wing are searching the area for the driver, who could possibly be injured, the spokeswoman said.
