Hospital plans investigation after man's death
A hospital in Melbourne's outer south-east will investigate how a man died hours after he sought treatment for a suspected blood clot in his leg.
Radio 3AW has reported the 46-year-old man was taken to Dandenong Hospital from Hallam on Boxing Day. Southern Health has confirmed it has launched an "immediate internal investigation" into the incident.
A spokeswoman said Southern Health would communicate the outcome of the investigation directly with the family.
The man received treatment before leaving the hospital, she said.
"Southern Health extends its sympathy to the patient's family," she said.
"Our social worker has had multiple discussions with the family and provided support."
She said Southern Health reported the death to the coroner, who is expected to conduct an investigation into the man's death.
