A hot air balloon carrying ten people was forced to make an emergency landing in Melbourne’s south after strong and unexpected winds turned the ride dangerous, police say.
Victoria Police spokesman Kris Hamilton said the controller, who had ‘‘over 20 years’ experience’’ steering hot air balloons, brought the balloon down safely in a parking spot on Carlisle Street, Balaclava, at 7:15am.

"There are no reported damages or injuries," Mr Hamilton said. "The people on board were not stressed out and the guy steering was in complete control the whole time".

"For an emergency landing, it was very calm."
The landing had not escaped the attention of the Twitter sphere, with a user writing: "Hot air balloon makes a controlled landing in the carpal of a block of flats in Balaclava, landing safely among parked cars".
