Man arrested with home-made firearm at Springvale station

A man was arrested in possession of a home-made firearm in Springvale on Monday night by Protective Services Officers.

Three PSOs were patrolling Springvale Railway Station when they were alerted to a man with no money on his MYKI card shortly before 7.20pm.

He provided them with his personal details, but subsequent checks showed he didn't match the photograph to the name he gave.

The man was then arrested and police searched him, locating what is believed to be a home-made firearm down the front of his pants.

The police also found unidentified white powder in his possession.

The man, who is aged in his 20s, was taken to Dandenong Police Station where he remains in custody.

He is expected to be charged with firearms offences.
