Man dies following boating incident

A man has died after swimming to shore when the boat he was on with two others began to sink near Point Cook, south-west of Melbourne, on Sunday.

Police believe the three men were on a boat, about 800m offshore, when the vessel began to sink at about 5.45pm.

All three men managed to swim to shore, but one man –who is yet to be identified- later died at the scene.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said crews tried to resuscitate the man, but were unsuccessful.

He said the other two men were not injured.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the cause of the man's death had not been determined, but was not being treated as suspicious.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
