Man dies in Croydon crash
A man has died after his car crashed into a tree in Croydon on Saturday night.
Investigators believe the 25-year-old's grey Mazda hatchback was heading north on Mount View Parade, near the intersection with Powell Street, when the crash occurred just before 10pm.
The man, from Croydon, was the sole occupant of the car and died at the scene.
His death takes the state's road toll to 262.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner, and have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestoppers.com.au.
Meanwhile, police have charged a man following a hit-and-run incident in Dandenong on Friday that left a motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries.
The motorcyclist, a 33-year-old Springvale man, was rushed to the Alfred Hospital on Friday night with serious injuries, following the collision at the intersection of the South Gippsland Highway and Princes Highway.
He remained in a critical but stable condition this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.
A 22-year-old from Pakenham was arrested about 1am on Sunday, and has been charged with negligently causing serious injury, failing to stop and failing to render assistance.
He was bailed to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
