Man presumed drowned after falling from Murray River houseboat

A man is missing presumed drowned after falling from a houseboat on the Murray River at Moama, near Echuca.

Police will continue to search for the 49-year-old Victorian man, who New South Wales Police believe fell overboard about 12.30am on Thursday after returning to a houseboat moored on the river at Moama.

Friends immediately went to the man's aid, but were unable to find him.

NSW and Victoria Police, along with paramedics, SES, Fire and Rescue, the Volunteer Rescue Association and NSW Maritime Rescue personnel conducted a search of the water soon after the man fell overboard, but could not locate him.

The search was suspended overnight, but resumed at first light on Thursday morning, with assistance from Victoria Police divers.
