A woman is in hospital with serious injuries after a terrifying home robbery in Melbourne's west last night, police say.

Three masked men, including one armed with a gun, forced their way into the home in Wyndham Vale and assaulted the 31-year-old before stealing her car.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the woman was at her home in Feathertop Drive with two other women when the thieves, who were wearing balaclavas and hoodies, stormed into the home about 10.30pm.

The men had a short conversation with the 31-year-old before striking her several times to the head and upper body.

They then escaped in the woman's car, a 1999 maroon Holden Commodore with registration plates G3NVUS, which was parked in the driveway.

The woman was taken to Sunshine Hospital with serious injuries to her head and upper body.

Detectives are looking for the woman's car and have appealed for anyone who sees the vehicle to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.
