Mini bike riders allegedly assaulted and seriously injured a man, killed his dog in an attack with a fence post on Friday night.

The man, 43, was walking his two dogs – a brown mini fox terrier-Jack Russell cross and a golden retriever – on Hodgins Road, Hastings, when he was approached by two men and a woman at about 9.40pm.

The two men and woman were riding mini bikes when an altercation occurred. Police believe the walker, of Hastings, was then bashed with a fence post.

The man sustained facial injuries and leg injuries.

The brown dog was kicked and killed. The golden retriever ran away.

The walker was taken to the Frankston Hospital with serious injuries.

The Hastings Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating an assault and say that the offenders fled and were seen riding west along Hodgins Road.

Detectives say the two men and woman were riding mini bikes and wearing protective clothing, including helmets.

Later, after midnight on Saturday morning, a man was stabbed near to Hodgins Road, on the Frankston-Flinders Road. He was rushed by air ambulance to The Alfred hospital where he was in a serious but stable condition.
