Motorcyclist killed in city's south-east

A motorcyclist is dead after a crash with a car in Melbourne's south-east early on Tuesday.

Police believe the silver sedan collided with the back of the motorbike while both were driving on Wellington Road, near Jacksons Road, in Mulgrave at 12.20am.

Motorcyclist killed in collision with sedan

Police believe a silver sedan collided into the back of a motorcycle travelling along Wellington Rd, Mulgrave, early Tuesday morning.

The motorcyclist, a man, died at the scene. The driver of the car, a man, was taken to The Alfred hospital with serious injuries and a female passenger was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for treatment.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are at the scene.

Wellington Road is expected to remain closed at Jells Road for some time while detectives investigate.

Police are also investigating a fatal crash in Oaklands Junction, near Craigieburn in Melbourne’s north several hours later.


A police spokeswoman said a man died when the ute he was driving veered off Oaklands Road and slammed into a tree, about 7.30am.

The man is yet to be identified and police will prepare a report for the coroner.

The deaths take Victoria's road toll to 269, two fewer than at the same time last year.
