About 800 mourners packed St Peter’s Catholic Church to remember the St Leonards College student, who had been described by family and friends as a "beautiful boy" who was loved by everyone he met.

Police stopped traffic as Jack's coffin was carried out of the church and his fellow students formed a line that stretched metres down the Centre Road as it was driven past.

It is believed Jack was leaning out of a moving train about 200m from Malvern Station when he was clipped by a signal panel and dragged outside.

Paramedics treated him for upper body and leg injuries and took him to The Alfred hospital, where he died about 11pm.

Jack is understood to be one of a group of teenagers who broke into the back carriage of the Caulfield bound train that evening – his younger brother Nicholas was with him at the time.

Jack’s family released a statement thanking the community for supporting them through the loss.

“He was a wonderful young man who was tragically taken and we will miss him greatly. We would ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.”
