A teenager has been killed by a train near Keon Park station on the South Morang line.

The accident happened just after 6am.

The boy, who was said to be in his late teens, was crossing the tracks about 300 metres from Keon Park station, police said.

He was struck by the city-bound train and died at the scene about 6.15am.

Police do not believe the death to be suspicious.

A spokesman for Metro said trains would not resume for several hours. All trains between South Morang and Keon Park stations will be replaced by buses.
