Police have released more CCTV footage regarding a sexual assault in South Melbourne this month.

The incident happened between 2.30am and 3am on  December  as the female victim was walking on the east side of Kings Way near Albert Road.

She was then approached by  a man, who introduced himself to the 24-year-old woman and started talking to her, walking alongside her. The woman, however, was talking on her mobile and sat down on a fence outside a car dealership to talk.

The man police would like to speak to.

The man walked through the car dealership and then grabbed the victim from behind. He dragged her to the ground between several cars in the dealership, and sexually assaulted her in a 10-minute ordeal. He then stole her credit card, which he has not used, and fled.

Police believe many cars were passing along Kings Way at the time and are appealing for witnesses.

"She struggled the whole time and quite bravely fought him off," said Detective Leading Senior Constable Anthon Bennett, from the sexual crime squad. "I spoke to her yesterday. She tells me she’s travelling pretty well ... she’s taking all of this in her stride."

He said police were keen to find the man. "There’s always a concern when you don’t find someone who commits quite serious street offences," he said.

Police have already released CCTV footage but have since come across better footage and have refined their description of the suspect.

He is Asian, in his late teens to mid 20s, with a slim build. He is about 165 centimetres tall. He may be an international student  and he may live in the CBD,  police said.

He was wearing a grey hooded top with large white lettering, light blue pants/jeans, white Nike runners and a black baseball cap with a white motif. He was carrying a black Nike backpack with large white Nike letters and a black skateboard.

Detectives believe he skateboarded after the attack from Kings Way at 2.55am to  Princes Bridge, near Flinders Street station, at 3.11am.

The suspect then skateboarded north along Swanston Street and right on to Lonsdale Street. He then walked north along Russell Street past Jane Bell Lane.
