Police car rammed by pair wanted for credit card theft

A couple wanted for credit card theft rammed into a police car and nearly ran down officers in Melbourne’s west, police say.

The man and woman were smoking an ice pipe in a reportedly stolen car, a police spokeswoman said, when police officers knocked on the passenger-side window in Clarke Street, Sunshine, on May 22.

She said the driver then quickly reversed and slammed into a marked police vehicle, causing extensive damage.

They then accelerated forward, forcing police officers to dive out of the way, and sped off, the spokeswoman said.

Police wanted the the pair over a May 16 credit card theft at a medical centre in Hatchlands Road, Deer Park.

The couple entered the medical centre just before 9am, police claim, and stole a credit card from an unattended handbag.

The credit card was then used to purchase cigarettes, alcohol, mobile phones and clothes at various shops in the Brimbank and Caroline Springs area.

Police have released an image of the couple, and have asked anyone with information to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit
