A man jailed for traffic offences has escaped from a prison in Victoria’s north.

Police say Vikramjit Singh left Dhurringile Prison, 160 kilometres north of Melbourne, about 6.30pm on Friday.

A search was conducted in the area around the minimum-security prison, but the 28-year-old was not found.

Police have released an image of Singh, who is described as Indian, 176 centimetres tall, with a medium build and short black hair.

He was last seen wearing his green prison uniform.

Anyone with any information about Singh’s whereabouts should ring Triple-0.
