Relief as missing toddler found 3.5km from home

A toddler missing for about 14 hours after he vanished from his home in Victoria’s north-west has been found safe and well with his faithful dog by his side.

Emergency services found Dante Berry, two-and-a-half, in bushland about 3.5 kilometres from his home in Mildura about 10.30am.

The boy wandered off from his house on Tuesday evening with a German shepherd dog called Dasher.

Police have released a statement from the boy's relieved family this afternoon, thanking all those involved in the search.

"We would like to express our thanks to the police, SES, CFA, members of the community and everyone involved in the search for Dante," the statement said.

"We are extremely relieved that he has been located safe and appears to be happy.

"We were happy, but not surprised, to learn that his faithful dog, Dasher, stayed by his side and was also found safe and well."

It had been reported that the pair were inseparable.

Earlier, police thanked the public and the media for their assistance.

"It is a big relief the boy was found," a police spokesperson said.
