Stolen copper found by transit police near Seddon train station

A large stash of stolen copper has been uncovered in Melbourne after quick-thinking officers noticed a suspicious van near a train station.

Transit police on a routine patrol near Seddon station on Thursday noticed the van on Hotham Street had stolen number plates, a police spokeswoman said.

The officers then found a substantial amount of stolen copper at a nearby property.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

Damian Greganic, of Seddon, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods and possessing a drug of dependence.

He will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.
